From Survivor to Guide: The Burnout Trap No One Talks About
Something happens when you come through the other side of Burnout that compels you to want to help as many as people to prevent this thing for themselves.
You want to share the horror, the learning, the tools, the hints, the tips, you want to shout it from the rooftops, and post about it, and write about it, and blog about it, and do podcasts and talks and webinars and events about it.
Because it sucks.
And it's awful.
And nobody should ever, EVER have to experience this, and if you can play a part in preventing it for someone else, then you will.
Maybe you'll do all of this awareness and prevention stuff as a side hustle, and maybe it will become the day job, maybe the side hustle will become the day job, and people will thank you for helping them to feel seen and heard, and so you'll start sharing your story and experience even more. And the more you do, the more 'expert' you'll feel, and then you'll move from just sharing your story to coaching others, or training others in awareness and prevention.
And here's where it can get dangerous.
If you don't full understand Burnout, as powerful and transformational as your story is, it could be harmful for you to share things as 'expertise' when actually it's just lived experience.
And this isn't to take away from your lived experience, or invalidate, or to. say it doesn't matter, because it does. And sharing your story will absolutely help others to feel less alone, more seen, and more heard.
But experience is not expertise, and framing it as such isn't helpful for anyone.
I see it daily.
I've even been you.
I started sharing my story in 2014, and a result I began to attract more coaching clients who were experiencing Burnout. I wasn't a 'Burnout Coach' or an expert, I was just sharing my story, and people would come and work with me.
BUT, people were also coming to me because they perceived not only that I would understand them, but that I would be able to help them come through like I had. And yet the clients who were experiencing Burnout, weren't getting the same results as my clients not experiencing Burnout, or being close to it.
There were clear differences in confidence, decision making, action taking and progress between those at Burnout and those not.
So I started learning, and training, and the more I knew, the better I could help my clients, and the more effective the coaching became. And the more dots I joined, the better the coaching was for my clients.
And now, over a decade later, those clients continue to go from strength to strength, but if I've only stuck with lived experience, those same clients may not be where they are now, and I'd be a pretty 'crappy expert'.
And it's for these reasons that I train coaches and professionals just like you, in Burnout Awareness.
Because I want you to succeed, I want your clients to succeed, I want your experience and your desire to help, to actually make a positive difference, not to push more people into Burnout, however well meaning you are.
Your story matters, your desire to prevent this awful thing called Burnout matters. But imagine just how powerful it would ACTUALLY be, if you had the awareness, the knowledge and the skills to add to your experience, and your story, and to truly make the impact that you want to make in the world. How much of a difference could you make then?
Burnout Awareness doesn't take away from your experience, it doesn't make it less. It makes it more.
More powerful, more impactful, AND more credible.
So if you really want your story to change lives, come join me in the Burnout Academy.
I'll see you there.
